Baseball Earns Split Of Doubleheader, Downs Indiana-Purdue 7-4
March 14, 2003 BRADENTON, Fla. - Sophomore Dan Hayden (Garnerville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team defeated Indiana-Purdue 7-4 Friday in the second game of a doubleheader. With the game tied at 2-2 after five innings, Rhode Island plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Junior Jad Prachniak (Lincoln, R.I.) earned the win in his first decision of the season, allowing four hits and two runs, only one of them earned, and striking out five in six innings of work. Sophomore Keith Ross (West Bridgewater, Mass.) came on in relief to get the last batter of the game to earn the save, his third of the season. Junior Jared Trout (Gilbertsville, Pa.) had a hit and drove in two runs for the Rams. Sophomore Matt Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), freshman Adam Houston (East Greenwich, R.I.) and freshman Tom Venedam (Suffern, N.Y.) each had a hit, RBI, and run scored for the Rams. Junior Dan Batz (Mohnton, Pa.) also had a hit and freshman Dan Tucker (Warwick, R.I.) drove in a run.
Rhode Island improved to 5-8 and has won five of its last seven games. The Rams play a doubleheader with Miami (Ohio), on Saturday.
