BRADENTON, Fla. - Indiana-Purdue pitcher David Zachary threw a five-hit shutout to beat Rhode Island 5-0 Friday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Zachary walked only one batter and struck out eight in seven innings of work.

Rhode Island senior Justin Lamboy (Warwick, R.I.) went 2-for-3 in the loss. Junior Dan Batz (Mohnton, Pa.) doubled and freshmen Josh Nestor (Nashua, N.H.) and TJ Baker (Milford, Conn.) each had a hit for the Rams (4-8).

Mike Lefort (0-1) took the loss for Rhode Island, allowing two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.
