Box Score

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Rhode Island baseball team was defeated, 9-4, in the finale of its three-game series at East Carolina, Sunday afternoon in Greenville, N.C. Sophomore Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) recorded two hits in the loss.

Sophomore Zoey Angulo (Miami, Fla.) got things started for Rhode Island, drawing a lead-off walk in the top of the first and advancing to second when senior Mike O'Malley (Nashua, N.H.) was hit by a pitch. Senior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) then singled through the right side to score Angulo and move O'Malley to second before sophomore Rob Deveney (Marlton, N.J.) reached base on an ECU error that plated both Rhody runners and gave the Rams an early 3-0 lead.

The Pirates got a run back in the bottom of the inning and tied things up with a two-out two-run shot by Brandon Henderson in the bottom of the third. East Carolina stretched its lead to four in the fifth inning before O'Malley plated freshman Kenny Burns (Shelton, Conn.) in the top of the seventh, making the score 7-4. ECU tallied its final two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run single by Drew Schieber.

Sophomore Nick Greenwood (Southington, Conn.) started for the Rams and gave up ten hits and seven runs (six earned) in 4.2 innings on the mound. Justin Bristow earned the win, allowing just four hits in seven innings.

Rhode Island (5-8) returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it travels to Radford for a 2:30 p.m. game against the Highlanders (7-5).
