Baseball Defeated at East Carolina, 13-2
March 14, 2008 GREENVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) led the Rams with a 2-for-3 performance in the Rhode Island baseball team's 13-2 loss to East Carolina, Friday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The win extended ECU's streak to ten games. Trailing by five in the top of the fourth, Rhody cut the Pirates lead to four when senior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) crossed the plate on Palmer's two-out single to center. ECU went up another run in the bottom of the inning but Rhody continued to chip away at the lead when senior Mike O'Malley (Nashua, N.H.) scored on an RBI single by freshman Kenny Burns (Shelton, Conn.), bringing the score to 6-2. That was as close as the Rams would get though as the Pirates combined for seven runs over the next two innings, sealing the 13-2 victory. Senior Brett Palanski (Nashua, N.H.) was charged with the loss, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs in four innings of work while freshman reliever Gardner Leaver (Montauk, N.Y.) gave up five runs on four hits and four walks in two innings. Sophomore Dan Rossignol (Nashua, N.H.) closed out the game for URI, pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth. Rhode Island (5-6) returns to Clark-LeClair Stadium to take on the Pirates, tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
