Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Rhode Island baseball team out-slugged Duquesne in a 13-2 victory Sunday night at Chain Lakes Stadium. Junior Nick Greenwood (Southington, Conn.) struck out eight batters over five and a third innings to earn the win for the Rams - who recorded 20 hits compared to just two by the Dukes.

Juniors Rob Deveney (Marlton, N.J.) and Zoey Angulo (Miami, Fla.) both belted homeruns in the victory, as did freshman Milan Adams (Exeter, R.I.), who finished with a game-best four RBI. Senior Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) and sophomore Tom Coulombe (Lincoln, R.I.) recorded three hits apiece for the Rams. Coulombe also batted in a pair of runs while scoring two himself.

Rhode Island (3-2) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first after Coulombe plated Rhault and junior Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) on a one-out double to right center. DeVeney then homered to right to put the Rams on top by four.

The Dukes (0-5) got one back in the bottom of the third before Adams extended Rhody's lead to 6-1 on a fourth-inning bomb that also scored freshman Mike LeBel (Quincy, Mass.). Adams doubled to right in his next at-bat, scoring sophomore Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.) and putting URI up 7-1.

Duquesne's final run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Bill Torre.

Rhode Island kept the offense rolling with a four-hit, four-run seventh inning. Coulombe got things started with a two-out double to left before advancing to third on a single by DeVeney. Cammans then singled to third to score Coulombe and Angulo followed with a three-run shot that game Rhody a 11-2 lead.

The Rams added two more runs - one in the eighth and one in the ninth - for the 13-2 victory.

Junior Dan Rossignol (Nashua, N.H.) threw 2.2 innings of relief with no hits and no runs before freshman Sam VandenHeuvel (Chandler, Ariz.) tossed a no-hit ninth inning to seal the win for URI. Duquesne's Ryan Juran was charged with the loss after giving up 11 hits and seven runs (five earned) over six innings.

The Rams return to action on Monday morning when they take on Fairfield at 11 a.m.
