KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island right handed pitcher Nick Johnson was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 21st round of the 2018 MLB Draft. The Worcester, Mass. product was the 618th pick overall.
Johnson ended his collegiate career tied for eighth all-time at URI with 65 career appearances and is one of just eight players in program history with double-digit saves. As a senior, he spanned 21.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run and set a new Rhode Island record with 14.56 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
In his 29.2 innings of work this past season, he recorded 48 strikeouts while allowing just 22 hits and 11 walks. His 1.21 ERA was tops on the team.
Johnson is the fifth Ram drafted under Raphael Cerrato, who took over as URI's head coach in 2015.
