How it Happened
After three and a half scoreless innings, Rhode Island (6-19, 0-4 A-10) broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth. Jordan Powell got things started with a leadoff single to right centerfield, before coming around to score on a double by Jackson Coutts.
Matt Murphy then struck out the side in the top of the fifth, but Davidson blew things open in the sixth. There, the Wildcats (16-9, 2-2 A-10) sent 14 hitters to the plate, and scored nine runs on five hits - including back-to-back homers by Alec Acosta and Walker Imwalle. Davidson then pushed it to 10-1 in the top of the seventh-inning, on an RBI single by Brett Centracchio.
A sacrifice fly by Kevin Heiss plated Powell in the eighth, making it a 10-2 game, but the Wildcats tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth for the 12-2 victory.
