My name is Taso Stathopoulos and I'm a fifth-year senior on the baseball team here at URI. After spending four years and countless hours in the classrooms here on campus, I decided to mix things up this semester and earn my credits as an intern in the Athletic Media Relations office. As part of my internship, I will be posting weekly updates and features on our team right here on GoRhody.com.
That being said, this year has gotten off to a fun start so far as we welcomed in 14 freshman to our Rhody baseball family. This is a good group of guys that is very eager to get better everyday. Same goes for those of us that have returned a year older and a year wiser, too.
This past summer, we had players represent our program in 10 different summer ball leagues across the country. Several guys competed in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, while others played in the NECBL, the FCBL, etc. We had guys playing all over the country - from the New England area, down to Florida and as far west as Missouri.
I've always thought one of the coolest things about being a college baseball player is this opportunity that we get every summer. It's awesome to see our players and our program showcased all across the country. I know that we all take a great amount of pride in representing Rhody Baseball and continuing to build upon the recent success that our program has experienced.
So, after wrapping up my final season of summer ball with the Ocean State Waves, here I am back in Kingston with my final season of college ball on the horizon (yea, I feel old.) Now that we're back at school and fall ball has begun, it's back to work to achieve our goals of winning an Atlantic 10 championship and making a run in the NCAA tournament.
And on that note, I'm off to get lunch before throwing a bullpen! Thanks for tuning in this week, and until next time... Go Rhody!
