Moyers Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Steve Moyers has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. The honor reflects his play through the week ending on Sunday, May 12.

Moyers earned his sixth Atlantic 10 start of the season and picked up the win in URI's 17-1 trouncing of Butler on Sunday afternoon. The southpaw retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Overall, he allowed just one run on two hits while fanning four and holding the Bulldogs to a .118 average on the afternoon. 

A native of East Longmeadow, Mass., Moyers has given up just four earned runs over his last 34.1 innings pitched. Overall, he is 4-1 with a save and boasts the league's best opposing average (.175). Additionally, his 1.76 ERA ranks second among A-10 starters - behind only senior teammate Sean Furney, who sits at 1.74.

The Rhody rookie currently ranks fifth nationally in hits allowed per nine innings pitched (5.43).

The Rams return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host UConn in a neutral site game. First pitch at Dodd Stadium (Norwich, Conn.) is set for 11:30 a.m.
