KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Brad Applin (Malden, Mass.) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. The honor reflects his play through the week ending on Sunday, April 21.
Applin played a key role in URI's victory over Temple on Saturday afternoon, allowing just two hits over 4.0 innings of relief work to earn his first career save. He struck out five batters and walked none over four shutout frames.
Through 16.1 innings of relief work this season, Applin has held opponents to a .146 batting average. In Atlantic 10 games, he is 1-0 with a save and has given up just three hits (all singles) over 9.2 innings of relief while fanning eight and posting a .120 opposing average.
The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon at Brown. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
