KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team is pleased to announce its fourth annual fundraising raffle, giving entrants the opportunity to win a $10,000 cash prize or a pair of Red Sox season tickets.
The raffle - which runs now through March 20, 2012 - is a significant fundraiser for the Rhody baseball team as all proceeds go directly back to the program to help offset the costs of travel, equipment and facility improvements.
Credited with one of the region's top recruiting classes for the second consecutive season, Rhody head coach Jim Foster has become know for challenging his club early on with non-conference matchups against some of the nation's top teams. Under his direction, URI has traveled to take on four of the eight teams that competed in the 2011 College World Series (California, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia) and will face another this season when the team heads to Nashville for a three-game set at Vanderbilt. Consequently, Rhode Island has had the best RPI in the Atlantic 10 in two of the last three years.
At home, the Rams have continued to develop Bill Beck Field into one of the area's best baseball facilities. Following the complete resurfacing of the field in 2009, URI most recently added a 5,000-square-foot indoor hitting barn along the right field line, giving the Rams year-round access to three batting cages.
With the next phase of developments, Rhode Island will look to add a new press box, grandstand and luxury seating as well as stadium lights.
