Rams Win Fourth Straight with 10-5 Victory at CCSU

How it Happened
Rhode Island (14-13) took a two-run lead in the top of the first before CCSU evened it up in the bottom of the second. Rhode Island then plated three in the third for the 5-2 advantage but the Blue Devils (15-10) came back once again, tacking on two in the fourth and another in the sixth to knot the score at 5-5.

Pat Quinn then drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, scoring Jeff Cammans from second on a hit-and-run single through the left side. The Rams added four more runs in the top of the ninth for the 10-5 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Cammans went 2-for-2 with with three walks, four runs and an RBI. Quinn and Jeff Roy also had two hits in the win. Roy scored three times while Quinn drove in a pair.
  • Rhode Island committed a season-high five errors but only gave up one unearned run. The Rams also handed the Blue Devils just their second loss at home this season as CCSU had entered the game with a 9-1 record on its home field.
  • Bobby Dean gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in a no-decision start. He also struck out three batters over 3.1 innings pitched. Kevin Lee went on to toss 2.2 innings, surrendering one run on three hits and two walks. 
  • Joe Landi tossed a scoreless seventh to earn his second win of the season. Brendan Doonan and Mike Bradstreet tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively, to close things out for the Rams. 

What's Next
Rhode Island returns to Bill Beck Field for a three-game series against George Washington this weekend. The Rams and Colonials will play at 3 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.
