How it Happened
Zach Vincej's lead-off solo shot put Pepperdine (11-4) in front 1-0 in the top of he first but the Rams (4-8) quickly evened things up in their next trip to the plate when Pat Quinn doubled to center before scoring on an RBI ground out by Joe Landi. Rhody then took its first lead of the series in the top of the third when Jeff Roy scored from first on Pat Fortunato's double down the left field line. From there, however, the Waves plated seven unanswered runs to take the game and complete the series sweep.
Inside the Box Score
- Jeff Cammans paced the Rams' offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Roy and Quinn each finished with two hits and a run scored while. Pepperdine managed eight hits on the day hits and took advantage of seven walks issued by the URI pitching staff.
- Rhody loaded the bases in the eight and put two runners on in the ninth, but the Rams were unable to push any additional runs across the plate, stranding a total of seven base runners on the afternoon.
- Starter Nick Narodowy was charged with the loss as he gave up five runs on five hits with three walks over 4.1 innings. Sean Furney was responsible for the next three runs while Rob Curran, Mike LeBel and Cole Warren combined for 2.1 scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
- Corey Miller picked up the win for Pepperdine, tossing eight complete innings before handing the ball over to Eric Karch for the top of the ninth.
