How it Happened
Vanderbilt took advantage of two first-inning errors by the Rams and jumped out to 7-0 lead before stretching it to 9-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Rhody got two back in the sixth when senior Milan Adams' two-out double scored redshirt senior Jeff Cammans and redshirt junior Pat Fortunato to make it a 9-2 game. Junior Kevin Stenhouse then plated redshirt senior Greg Annarummo and redshirt freshman Brendan Doonan with an eighth-inning pinch-hit single, but that was as close as the Rams would get.

 Inside the Box Score

  • With the loss, URI drops to 4-3 while Vanderbilt improves to 2-7. Vandy's victory snapped the Commodores' four-game slide and ended URI's four-game win streak.
  • As a team, Rhody collected eight hits and stranded 10 runners on the afternoon. Vandy, meanwhile, strung together 16 hits and left 11 on base. Both teams committed two errors.
  • Redshirt senior Chris Pickering (1-2) took the loss, giving up nine runs (six earned) on 14 hits over 4.2 innings. VU's Kevin Ziomek struck out nine Rhody batters in 7.1 innings of work to earn the win.
  • As it has been all season, the Rams' bullpen was solid over 3.1 innings of relief work. Redshirt junior Bobby Dean tossed a scoreless inning and a third before freshmen Ty Sterner and Cole Warren – both making their first career appearances for URI – combined to retire six of the next seven Vanderbilt batters.
