Rhody Baseball Signs 10 Student-Athletes for 2013 Season
KINGSTON, R.I. - Head coach Jim Foster has announced that 10 student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Rhode Island baseball program next season.
"We are very happy with the type of guys we have added in this class," said Foster. "They are very talented players who love baseball, come from good families, have a strong desire to get better and are very competitive. This class is a credit to the hard work of the entire coaching staff and is a group that will continue to richen the tradition of success that defines Rhody Baseball."
Regan Aghdam – SS – 5-11/165 – Worcester, Mass. – Burncoat HS
Plays under Coach Chris Kursonis at Burncoat High School… Was a member of the Post 201 East Side Raiders that captured the 2011 Massachusetts Senior American Legion State Championship… Hit .333 his junior year with nine doubles and 22 runs scored… Also went 4-1 on the mound with one no-hitter… Earned Central Mass and Inter-Mass All-Star accolades in 2011.
Foster on Aghdam: Regan is someone we think will keep getting better as he goes. He loves the game, really works at it and will get much stronger in the next few years. We hope that he can play in the middle of the field for us and be a key part of our lineup for years to come. I really think he has flown under the radar and we are excited to see how he develops in our program.
Lou DiStasio – INF/OF/P – 6-3/165 – Yarmouth, Maine – Chevrus HS
Plays under Coach Mac McKew at Cheverus High School... Was team MVP as well as a First Team All-State selection as a junior... Received his team's Most Improved Player award as a sophomore... Also earned All-State honors as a kicker in football and was an MVP, Rookie of the Year and All-SMAA basketball player.
Foster on DiStasio: Lou is a very athletic player who has the potential to help us anywhere on the field except catcher. He is a tremendous athlete who is very competitive in everything he does. Those are the type of players we want in our program. Lou is someone who has a high ceiling and we can't wait to work with him.
Max Dougan – RHP – 6-3/225 – Manchester, Conn. – Manchester HS
Plays under Coach Marc DiDominzio at Manchester High School… Has recorded a sub 3.00 ERA throughout his first three high school seasons... Also has 161 career strikeouts… Threw a no-hitter on April 6th, 2011 against Hall High School... Is a three-time member of the All-Central Connecticut Conference Team.
Foster on Dougan: Max is an upper eighties RHP with very good movement on all of his pitches. He has a good feel for his off speed pitches, and he has shown an ability to move the ball in or away on both righties and lefties. He wants the ball in all situations, is very competitive and has a good frame to get better. He is a big strong RHP with pitchibility.
Max Herrmann – LHP – 6-3/190 – Rutherford, N.J. – Montchair Kimberly Academy
Plays under Coach Ralph Pacifico at Montclair Kimberly Academy… Was an All-County Second Team selection as a sophomore and First Team honoree as a junior… Was named an underclassman All-Star the past two years… Also earned First Team All-State Prep B accolades and is standout WR on the football team… Currently ranks #2 all-time in receptions in Essex County history.
Foster on Herrmann: Max is a very athletic LHP who is just starting to scratch the surface of how good he can be. He has a great make up and a very intelligent approach to pitching. Right now, he is upper-eighties with a plus change up and a good slider that he can use to run in on right-handed hitters and away from lefties. He has a very high upside.
Jesse Lee – OF – 6-0/170 – Bristol, R.I. – La Salle Academy
Plays under Coach Geoff Marcone at La Salle Academy… Hit .403 as a junior with a .479 OBP%... Led his team in hits and stolen bases and was second in home runs and batting average… Was an All-Division First Team selection as well as a Rhode Island Underclassman All-Star in 2011.
Foster on Lee: Jesse is someone who has a very strong desire to get better and continuously develop. He brings toughness, is very athletic and can run well. He also has a tremendous work ethic. He can swing the bat very well from the left side and can go get the ball in the OF. He fits into our style of play which is to be very aggressive, pitch and play great defense.
Chase Livingston – C – 6-0/200 – Niantic, Conn. – East Lyme HS
Plays under Coach Jack Biggs at East Lyme High School… Led his team in batting average (.430), slugging % (.593), OBP % (.511), doubles (11) and RBI (27)… Was a Connecticut High School Coaches Association Class L All-State selection in 2011… Also was selected as a Junior All-Star, Rawlings Future All-Star and All-Area First Team honoree by the New London Day and Norwich Bulletin.
Foster on Livingston: Chase is a big strong physical catcher who can really block, catch and throw. He does a very good job with the pitching staff and has good leadership qualities. He projects as a plus bat who will hit with some power as well.
Nolan Long – RHP – 6-9/225 – Waterford, Conn. – Waterford HS
Plays under Coach Art Peluso at Waterford High School... Was ranked by Perfect Game as the #1 prospect in all of Connecticut... Also was selected to participate in the 2011 Connecticut Junior All-Star Game.
Foster on Long: Nolan is someone we believe is just starting to scratch the surface of how good he can be. He has a big frame and a strong desire to get better. His fastball is upper-eighties/low-nineties with some very good upside. We are very excited to see how much Nolan will improve over the next few years.
TJ Lynch – 1B/3B – 6-1/160 – Wakefield, R.I. – South Kingstown HS
Plays under Coach Jim Sauro (former URI Ram) at South Kingstown High School… Was a First Team All-Division selection as a sophomore and junior… Also earned All-State First Team accolades in 2011 after hitting .450 with 32 runs scored… Was named the top player at the 2011 Team One Under Armour Northeast Showcase and was an Under Armour Preseason All-American… Also is a standout hockey player at SKHS, leading the league in scoring during the 2010-2011 season.
Foster on Lynch: TJ will be a good left handed bat for us and he will only get better as he goes. Defensively, we see him as a corner infielder or outfielder. He is a tough kid who loves baseball and competing. He has a very good makeup and desire to get better – the type of player every coach wants on his team.
Steven Moyers – LHP – 6-0/175 – East Longmeadow, Mass. – East Longmeadow HS
Plays under Coach Kevin Magee at East Longmeadow High School… Has a 23-2 record with a 0.44 ERA over his first three high school seasons… Is a three-time All-Western Mass First Team selection as well as an ESPN Boston All-State First Team honoree… Also was a Western Massachusetts Co-Pitcher of the Year.
Foster on Moyers: Steven is a quality LHP who has tremendous makeup and pitchibility, can throw three pitches for strikes and has a good feel for what he is doing. He will be a key part of our pitching staff from day one. He competes as well as anyone and has a very good feel for what he is doing.
Ben Wessel – RHP – 6-1/170 – Scarborough, Maine – Scarborough HS
Plays under Coach Mike Coutts at Scarborough High School... Has been named an underclass All-Star for three straight years... Was an All-SMAA First Team pitcher in 2010 and 2011... Also earned First Team honors as an outfielder in 2011... Selected as the 2011 Showcase League Pitcher of the Year as well as 2010 Showcase Hitter of the Year... Was Scarborough's Pitcher of the Year as both a sophomore and junior in addition to earning the Scarborough Spring Athlete of the Year award in 2011.
Foster on Wessel: Ben is player that we are very excited to get into our program and start working with. Right now, he has a mid-to-upper-eighties fastball with some very good upside and room to improve. He has shown the ability to pitch and throw multiple pitches for strikes and has the potential to be an impact freshman as someone who pitches on the weekends.
