PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision to Brown on Tuesday afternoon at Murray Stadium. Junior Mike LeBel drove in three of Rhody's six runs in the loss.
Rhode Island (23-17) jumped out to an early lead as Roy led off the game with a single to left field and came around to score on a double by redshirt junior Jeff Cammans. Back-to-back walks by Borden and sophomore Kevin Stenhouse then set up junior Milan Adams' RBI single to short, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead.
However Brown (9-26) quickly evened things up in the bottom of the inning - on two-run shot by Ryan Zrenda - before taking a 3-2 lead in the second.
Borden went on to tie things up at 3-3, leading off the third with a triple to left before crossing the plate on a sac-fly by LeBel.
Trailing 4-3 in the top of the fifth, LeBel erased the deficit in his next trip to the plate when he sent a two-run homer over the fence in left centerfield to put URI on top 5-4.
The Rams added another in the top of the seventh as Borden drew a one out walk, advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt and then scored on a wild pitch. However, the Bears came back with three in the eighth to claim the win.
Freshman Nick Narodowy took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits in the bottom of the eighth. Kevin Carlow, meanwhile, earned the win for Brown - his first of the season.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Old Orchard Beach, Maine to take on the Black Bears in a neutral site game at the Old Orchard Beach Ballpark.
