PHILADELPHIA - Redshirt junior Greg Annarummo went 5-for-6 with four runs and three RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team cruised to a 18-4 victory at La Salle on Sunday afternoon. Senior Kyle Borden also drove in a trio of runs and scored three times in a 3-for-5 day at the plate.
Annarummo nearly hit for the cycle as he finished the day with three singles, a triple and a homerun - his first of the season. Junior Mike LeBel recorded a pair of doubles and scored twice while classmate Milan Adams had three RBI in the win.
Overall, the Rams collected 16 hits on the afternoon - seven of which were for extra-bases - while each offensive player reached base at least once.
Redshirt senior Stephen Peterson picked up his first win of the season, allowing just two runs while striking out six batters over 6.2 innings. Classmate Gardner Leaver closed things out, facing the minimum six batters in a scoreless eighth and ninth.
Rhody (13-12, 3-3) took a two-run lead in the top of the second - on runs by Annarummo and LeBel - before extending it to 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. There, the Explorers got their first run of the game on an RBI single by George Smith, Jr.
The Rams, however, came back with two more in the top of the eighth as junior Ty Muller and freshman Joe Landi crossed the plate to make it a 9-1 game. Muller and Landi finished with two runs apiece while Muller also drove in a pair for his second multiple RBI game of the season.
La Salle (15-12, 3-3) closed the gap in the bottom of the seventh as Jeff Flax plated two with a single to right before scoring on a base hit by Marc Schoch to make the score 9-4. The Explorers were unable to get any closer though as the Rams exploded for a nine-run ninth inning to seal the 18-4 victory.
Rhode Island returns to action with a pair of midweek games at Boston College (Tuesday) and Northeastern (Wednesday) before hosting Saint Louis in a three-game weekend series.
