KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team fell to Central Connecticut, 7-5, Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. Senior Kenny Burns reached base four times, going 3-for-3 with a walk, while redshirt junior Jeff Cammans had two hits and two runs in the loss.
Freshman Kevin Lee and redshirt sophomore Rob Curran combined for seven innings of scoreless relief from the first through seventh innings. Lee did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings of work while Curran gave up just four hits while fanning five batters over 4.1 innings on the hill.
The Blue Devils (8-8-1) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs on one hit and four walks in the top of the first.
However, the Rams (10-11) came back made it a one-run game in the bottom of the inning as senior Tom Coulombe singled through the left side to score LeBel before Cammans stole third and then scored on sac pop up by redshirt junior Greg Annarummo. Cammans then scored again in the third to even things up at 3-3.
Haverstick's RBI single plated junior Ty Muller to give the Rams their first lead of the game (4-3) in the fifth inning. Rhody went on to extend its lead in the seventh when Annarummo crossed the plate on a sac bunt by junior Milan Adams.
Senior Brian Bodjiak retired the first three batters he faced in the eight but allowed back-to-back hits in the top of the ninth. Redshirt senior Kyle Regnault then took over and gave up three hits and a walk which resulted CCSU's final four runs of the game.
The Rams are back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Boston College at 3:30 p.m.
