PALM BEACH, Fla. - Redshirt junior Jeff Cammans went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI and two stolen bases as the Rhode Island baseball team took down Northeastern, 12-4, on Sunday night. With the win, the Rams improve to 4-1 while Northeastern drops to 0-3.
Senior Ken Graveline improved to 2-0 on the year, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out four over 6.1 innings of work. Junior Anthony Pisani came on in the seventh and closed out the game as he allowed just three hits and one run over the final 2.2 innings of play.
Rhody jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third as back-to-back hits by Coulombe and Annarummo drove in a pair of runs to give URI the early lead.
Northeastern got one back in the bottom of the frame but the Rams responded with a six-run fourth before tacking on one more in the fifth to lead 9-1.
The Huskies closed the gap with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh - making it a 9-4 game - but Rhody added two more in the eighth and another in the ninth to lock up the win.
NU's Brandon McNelis suffered the loss, giving upright runs (six earned) over the opening four innings.
The Rams return to action on Monday night when they travel to Miami to take on Florida International at 6 p.m.
