Baseball Knocked Out of A-10 Tournament with 3-0 Loss to Xavier

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Rhode Island baseball team was eliminated from the 2007 Atlantic 10 baseball tournament after dropping a 3-0 decision to fourth-seeded Xavier on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio. The Rams recorded four hits in the loss.
Redshirt senior Adam Perkins (Nashua, N.H.), Rhode Island's all-time winningest pitcher with 23 career victories, gave up six hits and two runs in 5.2 innings on the hill. Xavier's Michael Lucas earned the win pitching a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts.
After four and a half scoreless innings, juniors Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.), Mike O'Malley (Nashua, N.H.) and Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) loaded the bases with two outs but the Rams we unable to plate any runs as sophomore Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) struck out on a 1-2 pitch to end the inning.
In the top of the sixth, Xavier's Adam Lipski put the Musketeers on the board with a two-run single up the middle that scored Neil Lindgren and Robbie Kelley.
XU went on to score its final run in the top of the eighth for the 3-0 win.
Prior to tonight's loss, Rhode Island had won its last six games against Xavier, dating back to March 25, 2006. The Rams defeated the Musketeers four times this season, including yesterday's 4-3 victory in the opening game of the A-10 Tournament.
Rhody ends its season with an overall record of 23-30.
