Garrett Waller joined the Rhode Island Athletics Department as the Associate Athletic Director for Development in August of 2013.
Waller comes to Rhode Island after spending the previous eight years at the University of Massachusetts, serving as the executive director of the UMass Athletic Association and the director of major gifts for the athletics department.
Directly responsible for the leadership of the major gifts unit of the UMass athletics development office, Waller oversaw the Minutemen Club, capital projects, scholarships, endowments, athletic fundraising events, 16 sport-specific booster programs and planned gifts.
Waller also executed major gift solicitations for the $33M UMass Rising Campaign for athletics, including soliciting and securing the largest gift by an individual to the athletics department - $10M - for a basketball practice facility to be completed in 2014.
Prior to his arrival in Amherst, Waller served as the Assistant AD for Development at St. John's. During his tenure there, he helped to increase the annual giving to the Red-White Club from $350,000 to $800,000 in just three years, while developing and implementing a premium seating program at Madison Square Garden.
A 1999 graduate of Stony Brook with a degree in history, Waller was a four-year letterwinner in baseball. He and his wife Lori - a former Stony Brook softball player - have a son Jake, and a daughter Emily.
