Richard Johnson enters his sixth year at Rhode Island in 2016-17.
Johnson came to URI from the University of Maine, where he served as assistant strength & conditioning coach. In that role, he designed and implemented programs baseball, softball, women's soccer, and track & field teams, while also working with the football and basketball teams.
Prior to his time with the Black Bears, Johnson served on the strength and conditioning staffs at Auburn (2010), Georgia Tech (2008-09) and Georgia State (2007-08). He also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Springfield College, where he pursued a master's degree in exercise science and sports studies after earning his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Norfolk State in 1999.
Johnson, who holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and USA Weightlifting (USAW), is a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA).
