DR. CARL R. WOODWARD, President Emeritus, retired in 1958 as URI's fifth president after leading the school for 17 years during some of the most trying but rewarding times in its athletic history. He served as Chairman of the Athletic Council throughout his entire term and gave solid support to Ram athletics as a firm believer in a sound sports program. He was one of Frank Keaney's most outspoken supporters, was one of the founders of the Yankee Conference, and is a member of the State of Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame.
