Lauren Anderson Promoted To Senior Associate Director of Athletics

KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island Director of Athletics Ron Petro has announced that Lauren Anderson has been promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics, effective immediately.
"Ms. Anderson has been a valuable and efficient coach and administrator at the University of Rhode Island," said Petro. "She has been an excellent mentor to our young coaches. Lauren has represented Rhode Island well on national committees and continues to work towards gender equity in all sports. I am pleased to announce her promotion."
As associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator since 1992, Anderson has been responsible for the coordination and supervision of intercollegiate sports, the sports medicine staff, the academic advisors for student-athletes, and the athletics operations staff. Anderson joined URI in 1977 and served as the first head coach of the women's cross country program and the women's indoor and outdoor track and field program. From 1977 to 1992, she was responsible for the overall administration and operation of three NCAA Division I sports including post-season play in the Atlantic10 Conference, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, New England, and NCAA Championships.
Anderson is currently a member of the board of directors and secretary of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators and has served on the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Committee since 1993. From 1992-98 Anderson was a member of the NCAA Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee and was the first woman to be named chair, a position she held for three years. She has also served as the Vice President of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference and is currently serving as the President of the Rhode Island Association of Collegiate Athletics for Women. The highly successful administrator has garnered several awards recently, including the A. Lenore Cranston Service Award from the Rhode Island Association for Girls and Women in Sports and induction into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In 2001 Anderson was honored by the University of Rhode Island as the Woman of the Year by the Association for Professional and Academic Women.
