The Daily Grind: A Season-Long Blog by Senior Marie Gillcrist

September 13, 2017 - Welcome to the Blog!
Hi Rhody, Marie Gillcrist here! You may recognize me from the women's volleyball team, or just because I am the very tall girl always dressed head to toe in Rhody gear, usually drinking an iced coffee, and typically rushing to my next class or practice. As a Public Relations major and Business minor I've had the privilege of being able to experience Rhody academically, athletically, and socially. Now, I'm getting to experience what goes on day-to-day in the athletic department, as an intern in the Athletic Media Relations office. Lucky for you all, this internship also allows me to provide a behind-the-scenes look into the Rhody volleyball program, via this blog, The Daily Grind... [continue reading]

September 21, 2017 - The Wizard Behind the Curtain
Hi Rhody, Marie Gillcrist here to welcome you back to The Daily Grind, where I'm excited to share this week's Rhody Volleyball spotlight interview on head coach Steve Santonastaso! I've had the pleasure of playing under Coach Steve for my entire Rhode Island career, so I thought it was important to give you all a look at our "wizard behind the curtain" aka the man who has been an integral part of making Rhody Volleyball what it is today... [continue reading]

October 2, 2017 - Once a Ram, Always a Ram
Hi Rhody! I'm back this week with former Rhody volleyball player Franki Darnold! For Rhody athletes and fans alike, Franki has been missed since the day she graduated from URI… but lucky for us, she couldn't stay away for long! After one year back home in California, she returned to Rhody to pursue her master's degree and help coach the Rams she left behind! As a former teammate of mine, I appreciated not only her unparalleled gift for racking up points, but also her ability to keep the team united and always remind us to love the process. As you would expect, she has carried these attributes into her current role as a graduate assistant coach, and we are all reaping the benefits of having her back on campus... [continue reading]

Hi Rhody! I'm back again, this time with senior Kylee Wolfe. Seems like just yesterday we were freshmen running around Hillside to one another's dorm rooms and complaining about our first off season of morning lifts. What I would do to go back now! It didn't take long for Kylee and I to become very close early on, and you'll soon find out why. Kylee is an Education major who impresses everyone she meets with her drive, work ethic and compassion. Now I get to share with you a little bit about her, and hopefully find out some things even I don't know… [continue reading]
